Happy Mole Day
posted Thursday, May 8, 2003 at 09:32

It was two years ago today that we bid adeiu to the bastard mole that used to live behind my ear. For those of you just tuning in, that sonofabitch mole was chock-full-of-cancer and because of it, the cancer spread to my lymph nodes and I had two big surgeries to remove all of it.

Well, today is the 2 year anniversary of the first surgery. That was the main procedure to remove the mole and surrounding tissue. Before this procedure they shot the mole up with dye so that they could see if it was draining to anywhere else in my body. It was, as they suspected, draining to a nearby lymph node, so they took that guy out, too.

At the time we were hoping that this one surgery would do the trick, but after the pathology results came back from the node biopsy and were positive for cancer, they wanted to go back in and take out all of the other lymph nodes in the area. That surgery took place a few weeks later.

My what fun all of that was. So if you're talking about going to the beach or a tanning bed and I happen to give you a strange look, don't take it personally.

If you'd lke to re-live my notes from a few days after the procedure, check out this page.
